AfP’s Mali Affinity Group will Honor Special Guest
The Mali Affinity Group on Wednesday, September 21 from 2:30 to 4:00pm will convene for a special reception at the Alliance for Peacebuilding Headquarters in DC.
The group will honor Mr. Ibrahima Sankre, the 2016 Harris Wofford Award winner with a reception and brief discussion of his work in Mali. Mr. Sankare has focused mainly on health and education-related initiatives. To meet the needs of children of nomads, he created mobile schools of the delta interior of Niger and in the Western Africa Sahel. He is also a fierce advocate for women suffering from obstetric fistula; in 2007, Delta Survie formed a partnership with SERRV International to create centers for women with the condition both in and out of Mali.
More recently, Sankare expanded Delta Survie’s mission to include conflict resolution. Because of al Qaeda-linked militants and separatist rebels attacking northern Mali, Sankare brokered negotiations between local factions involved.
