Mali Affinity Group Welcomes New Ambassador of Mali to the U.S.

On Monday, June 25th, the Alliance for Peacebuilding’s (AfP) was thrilled to welcome Ambassador┬áMahamadou Nimaga, the new Ambassador of Mali to the United States, for his first meeting with the Mali Affinity Group. In attendance were over 20 representatives, including directors and CEOs, from AfP’s membership and other leading peacebuilding organizations, such as Search for Common Ground, the United States Institute of Peace, and the International Republican Institute.

The meeting first started with Ambassador delivering his remarks about the peace and security situation in Mali. Affinity Group members, including some that have recently conducted fieldwork in Mali, provided their own comments and perspectives about the situation on the ground. The group then engaged in a productive conversation with the Ambassador, asking questions about the government’s current policies and views on maintaining peace and security.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the group partook in a brief reception to allow each attendee to personally meet with Ambassador Nimaga. The full remarks from the ambassador to the group can be found here.
