Empower a Peacebuilder this Holiday Season!
This holiday season, the Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP) encourages its donors to empower a peacebuilder! From now until January 1st, 2019, those that donate to AfP will have the opportunity to nominate peacebuilders for a free year of AfP membership. This initiative is meant to encourage giving back to the peacebuilding community, and support peacebuilders that face financial constraints. AfP membership empowers peacebuilders through ensuring access to the latest information and opportunities in peacebuilding, a member network of +1,000 peacebuilders, and the opportunity for greater visibility. Learn more about the benefits of AfP membership here.
How It Works
Those that donate $50 or more to AfP, will receive a follow-up email from AfP within two business days stating that they are allowed to nominate one individual for a free year of AfP membership ($50 value). Those who wish to nominate a peacebuilder will be required to provide the full name and email of those nominated. AfP will reach out to those nominated and sign them up for a free year of membership if they choose to accept.
Those that donate $500 or more to AfP will receive a follow-up email from our Membership and Outreach Manager within two business days stating that they are allowed to nominate one grassroots peacebuilding organization for a free year of AfP membership.
Nominating Process for Organizations
Per AfP’s by-laws, nominated organizations will be subjected to vetting and need to be voted upon by our board of directors. Those that nominate organizations will be required to provide the full name and contact details the nominated organization’s highest ranking officer. The nominated organization will be required to provide the following:
- Two letters of recommendation
- Documentation certifying the annual operating budget
Nominated organizations will be vetted and must go through the formal process of applying being put before a vote by our board of directors. If approved, the organization will become an AfP member on the date of approval. The free year of membership will be credited to the donor unless the donor wishes to remain anonymous.
This is a one-time campaign. Donors that nominate peacebuilders will not be asked to continue financial support for a nominated organization’s membership once it expires. Donors are however welcome to continue financial sponsorship for an organization if they so desire, but are not obligated to do so.
Who Can Be Nominated
Nominations for individual membership can be for anyone, though we encourage donors to nominate those who would normally not be able to afford AfP membership. Examples of individuals to nominate can include:
- A student
- A volunteer
- Peacebuilder working locally
Nominations for organizational memberships are meant to support small, grassroots organizations that would otherwise not be able to afford and benefit from AfP membership. These organizations can be based anywhere, though we especially encourage donors to nominate small, grassroots organizations that work locally in conflict-affected areas. Nominated organizations that maintain an annual operating budget of $100,000 or more will not be considered. Examples include:
- Community-Based Human Rights Groups
- Locally-Led Peacebuilding Organizations
- Community Service Organizations
- Gender and Women Empowerment Organizations
- Youth Support and Empowerment Groups
