The Alliance for Peacebuilding reiterates its profound concern about rising tensions and escalation in the Persian/Arabian Gulf region and urges the U.S. and Iranian governments to exercise restraint and avoid violent conflict.  In this context, we endorse the proposed bipartisan Udall-Kaine amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would require Congressional consent prior to U.S. military action against Iran.  We call upon the Senate to put the amendment to a vote.  As an alternative to war that would carry incalculable costs and risks, we urge the U.S. and Iranian governments to resolve their differences peacefully, via diplomacy, dialogue, and de-escalation.
