Contents: One in three women will experience gender-based violence during their life and women and children make up 75-80% of IDPs, and refugees. In conflict-affected regions, women and children are extremely vulnerable to experiencing trauma not only due to violent conflict but also due to societal norms and standards. For example, sexual and gender-based violence, such as rape and sexual abuse, are common weapons of war that exploit unequal power balances, societal norms, male dominance, and patriarchy.
