FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP) expresses its profound condolences over the passing of Ambassador John W. McDonald. Ambassador McDonald was a true peacebuilder and a trailblazing leader in developing and strengthening the multi-track diplomacy system. His legacy will elevate diplomacy, international development, and peacebuilding for decades to come.

Ambassador McDonald’s wisdom and expertise in the field earned him global acclaim. His work founding the Institute for Multi-Track Diplomacy, a longtime AfP member, resulted in his nomination for the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize.

Ambassador McDonald’s advocacy for multi-track diplomacy programming, beyond track one-only negotiations, forever changed the peacebuilding field for the better.

“Ambassador McDonald’s distinguished career as a diplomat and peacebuilder, as well as his landmark work to advance social and ethnic equality in Europe and the Middle East, is an inspiration to me.” CEO Uzra Zeya commented. “His pioneering legacy in creating multi-track diplomacy should be celebrated and remembered, and he will be greatly missed.”

AfP extends its deepest sympathies to Ambassador McDonald’s family, staff at the Institute of Multi-Track Diplomacy, and the broader peacebuilding community that he helped to build.

Further information on his memorial service can be found on the IMTD Website.
