The Repatriation Imperative: Why Returning Foreign Terrorist Fighters and Family Members Matters

  • 1800 Massachusetts Ave NW Suite 401 Washington, DC United States (map)

Join AfP on June 17th at 2pm EDT for a partial film screening and dynamic panel discussion, The Repatriation Imperative: Why Returning Foreign Terrorist Fighters and Family Members Matters, to explore the complexities surrounding foreign fighter repatriation and identify recommendations for the international community."

Al-Hawl and Al-Roj refugee camps in Syria are currently home to over 65,000 people, mostly women and children—many of whom are ISIS supporters—including several hundred from the West. Many politicians and national security professionals claim that repatriating these women and children pose a serious security risk. At the same time, experts and counterterrorism officials suggest that preventing their repatriation could lead them to become part of an ISIS resurgence or undermine peacebuilding efforts.

The event will include a screening of a segment of “The Return: Life After ISIS,” which recently debuted at the SXSW film festival, followed by a wide-ranging discussion and Q&A session with the film’s Director and featured experts.
