Most peacebuilding practitioners and scholars know that understanding and addressing root causes of conflict is vital to building sustainable peace. The new book by Chris Blattman, Why We Fight: The Roots of War and Paths to Peace, draws on decades of economics, political science, psychology, and real-world interventions to lay out the root causes and remedies for war, showing that violence is not the norm; that there are only five reasons why conflict wins over compromise; and how peacemakers can turn the tides through tinkering, not transformation.
On Tuesday, October 25 at 9:30am ET, the Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP) and George Mason University’s Better Evidence Project will host a conversation with Chris Blattman on his new book. Blattman is the Ramalee E. Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies at The University of Chicago’s Pearson Institute and Harris Public Policy. He is an economist and political scientist who studies violence, crime, and underdevelopment.
This is a hybrid event. To attend virtually, register through the link below. To attend in-person at AfP’s offices (1800 Massachusetts Ave, Suite 401 Washington, DC), email Nick Zuroski.
