Workshop: Building the Peacebuilding Field's Evidence-Based Practice

AfP’s Senior Director for Learning and Evaluation, Jessica Baumgardner-Zuzik and One Earth Future’s Conor Seyle will present findings on the need for evidence-based practice in peacebuilding initiatives from their recently released study and related report: Some Credible Evidence: Perceptions about the Evidence Base in the Peacebuilding Field

With the goal of improving the entire field’s ability to deliver sustainable peace, the study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the views of peacebuilding practitioners on evidence-based practice.

The Better Evidence Project’s Executive Director, Dr. Kristina Hook, will introduce and moderate a panel of special guest speakers including:

  • Alpaslan Özerdem, Dean of the Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University

  • Stephen Del Rosso, Program Director, International Peace & Security at Carnegie Corporation

  • Marcel Arsenault, Founder & CEO of One Earth Future Foundation

  • Liz Hume, Acting President & CEO of Alliance for Peacebuilding

Breakout groups at the event will be focused, facilitated discussions to encourage collaboration between experts in the field. Topics include:

  • Women, Peace, and Security and Evidence: How to encourage attention to the evidence-based role of women in peacebuilding

  • Developing a Foundation of Evidence-based Approaches: How to collate and communicate the findings where the field sees evidence

  • Promoting Evidence-based Approaches in the US Government: How to better engage government policy and practice in the discussion

  • Rigor, not Methods: How to discuss rigor in evidence without devolving to a methods debate

  • Next Steps for Peacemaking Evidence: How to advance the overall discussion about evidence in peacebuilding
